Loud Whisper: Guidance 46 Amouage I am deeply impressed by the imaginative concept that gave rise to Guidance 46 Exceptional Extrait, a fragrance that elevates the iconic Guidance Eau de Parfum by Amouage. The chief creative officer, Renaud Salmon, and the perfumer, Quentin Bisch, drew inspiration from evocative conceptual references to create this scent. They were inspired by the paradox of a «loud whisper», embodying both subtlety and intensity, much like the delicate yet potent presence of a jellyfish. Another significant influence was Irving Penn's Flowers series, which captures both fragility and boldness in its vivid imagery. This duality is mirrored in Guidance 46's composition, where luminous pear and rose water dance with grounding frankincense and ambergris. The team aimed to enhance the original Guidance's narrative by adding ingredients like bitter almond and pink pepper to intensify contrasts without altering its core essence. The result is a fragrance that feels ethereal yet commanding, a harmonious study in light and shadow.   Olfactory Notes Initially, pear and rose water burst forth, their bright, juicy sweetness laced with pink pepper’s spicy zing, evoking a vibrant dawn. As the heart emerges, saffron and sambac jasmine intertwine with osmanthus, conjuring a warm, floral embrace reminiscent of a blooming garden at noon. Finally, the base reveals sandalwood and ambergris, grounded by akigalawood’s earthy depth and vanilla’s creamy warmth, like a serene twilight settling over a desert oasis.
